Sutherland - the actual trip

The learners from Observatory Junior, Hermanus Primary and Valhalla Primary spent 2 nights in Sutherland. The weather was beautiful and certainly conducive for some good stargazing. This proved to be a real treat.

Trip to Sutherland

Observatory Junior School (who took first place), Hermanus Primary School (runner-up) and Valhalla Primary (runner-up) will visit SALT in Sutherland soon. The trip will take place 5 - 7 October 2011.

The provincial leg of the AstroQuiz has come to an end with first place going to Observatory Junior School. The runners up: Hermanus Primary School and Valhalla Primary School.

AstroQuiz Round3 and Round4 - The process

28 schools (from 7 of the 8 education districts) in the Western Cape will participate in AstroQuiz Round3. The top 10 schools will proceed to the provincial finals, to be held on the same day. The winner (1 school only) will represent the Western Cape in the National Finals in Bloemfontein on 28th October 2011.

Round 2 takes place Friday, 29th July at 14:30. This is an elimination round and therefore written under strict examination conditions. Each education district will be represented in Round 3. To proceed to Round 3, schools would need to meet the following qualifying criteria:

• score in the top 5 schools within the district and
• score at least 50%
